Learning Music with Vic Grady
Real-world experience and personal lessons from someone who has lived it
Music is much more than just hitting the right notes. It is a way to express yourself and grow as a person. I started teaching because I want to make music accessible to everyone. I provide a relaxed, encouraging environment where you can find your own sound and enjoy playing, all from your own home.

Forty Years on Stage and in the Studio
My Background
I started my first band when I was 13 and have not stopped since. Over the last 40 years, I have worked as a performer, composer, and teacher. I have played everywhere from local community events to international tours, and I bring all that real-world experience into every lesson I teach.

Theory Meets Practice
How I Teach
I use a straightforward approach that balances the essentials, like music theory and sight-reading, with actually playing the songs you love. I want you to see results right away. Most of my beginners are playing a recognizable melody by their first or second lesson.

Helping You Reach Your Goals
Student Success
I have helped vocalists make it to stages like American Idol and coached guitarists through recording their first albums. Whether you want to master jazz improv or just learn a new hobby, I am here to help you build the confidence you need to hit your own goals.

Lessons That Fit Your Life
Learning Online
I use simple, high-quality digital tools to create a relaxed learning environment that works with your schedule. Because we meet online, it does not matter if you are in Southern California or New York City. You get a personalized lesson plan that moves at exactly the right pace for you.

Picking up a new instrument is a big move, and I want to make the process as easy as possible. Whether you are holding a guitar for the first time or returning to the piano after years away, here is a look at how my online lessons work.
I teach electric and acoustic guitar, bass, voice, and piano. My goal is to help you find your own rhythm and feel confident every time you play. I also offer instruction on music theory, songwriting, composition, and can teach these as stand alone courses or include them into any program where you're already learning an instrument.
Not at all. I designed my beginner lessons to be encouraging and low-pressure. I focus on getting you results quickly, and most of my students are playing songs they recognize within the first two weeks.
I work with everyone from 4-year-olds just starting to retirees in their 70s. I adjust my teaching style for every student, whether we are both building basic coordination or diving into a creative new hobby.
I will use FaceTime, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp to bring the lessons right to your home. All you need is your instrument, a steady internet connection, and a phone or laptop with a camera and microphone.
Lessons range from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the student's needs, goals, and age. For many students, a 40-minute lesson provides ample time for instruction, repetition, application, and questions. Many older teens and adult students benefit from a 60-minute lesson, which allows deeper investigation into both technique and music theory, as well as more time for song and solo practice.
An acoustic piano, a digital piano, or even a basic electronic keyboard will work fine. While weighted keys are better for advanced playing because they feel more like a traditional piano, I encourage you to start with whatever you have available.
Definitely. I have coached singers who made it onto American Idol and helped many others prepare for professional auditions and recording sessions. I can focus your lessons specifically on getting you ready for the stage.
I specialize in a variety of genres, like rock (including classic rock), pop, blues, country, funk, soul, R&B, jazz, folk finger-style guitar, and classical guitar.
